outlet feels warm ?

I live in a older small house built in 1949. The living room has 3 outlets. Why would the one that doesn't have anything plugged into it be warm to the touch if only the one on the other side is in use, (Air Cond wall unit plugged into that one) I noticed when I turn off the AC at night the outlet isn't warm anymore ? Any ideas ?

Outlets are feed one after another from the permanent wiring.

The receptacles themselves are sometimes used to make the connection between the incoming power wires and the outgoing power wires to feed the next receptacle.

A loose connection on these wires could cause the outlet itself to get warm.
