Wiring Source for New Range Hood Installation

BarryWong

I am wiring up a new installation for a range hood. There is a 120V electrical receptacle outlet about 6 ft away where I can tap into to bring power to my hood fan.

A closer source is the 240V range receptacle. Excuse my ignorance, but is it not possible to tap into only half the power (ie. connect from the black and white wires only + the ground) from here?

Please advise.

No, it is not possible to tap off the range circuit. Nor is it possible to tap into a kitchen receptacle circuit.
If this is just a range hood you can take power from a local lighting circuit.
If it is an over-the-range micro/hood then it requires it's own dedicated circuit.
