Outlet box problem

I'm having an icemaker installed in our island and I need an outlet at the rear of the opening. There's 1/4" plywood at the back wall. Behind this back partition is fairly accessible right now. Is there a way to mount a box on the plywood from the back? A special box maybe?

I'm not quite sure I follow the design, but the simplest way if there is room is to just mount the box on the surface of the plywood if there is room to push the icemaker in place with it there. You're allowed to get creative with how you firmly attach the box to the structure such that it doesn't show in the fiinished areas. If the plywood isn't the opposite side of a finished surface (i.e. there is some void behind it), and "old work" box is another option. These have some device (the old ones had metal tabs, the new ones have little flip out wings) that allow the box to be held securely to the finish surface through a hole not much bigger than the box is.

Existing work blue plastic boxes have tabs that grip the back of wall material by turning the screws on the top and bottom. Go to any big box store and you will find them in the electrical dept. It is a matter to carefully cut the hole by tracing around the box.

O.K. that sounds reasonable. I'll check into the 'old work' option. Next question is, does the wire coming up from crawlspace have to be in a conduit of any sort? The void that it's in is not exposed but can be accessed by opening the cabinet door and reaching waaaaay back.

If you're not in one the places in the country that mandates conduit for anything, you only need use it if there is a possibility of physical damage. You'll have to make that call but generally inside cabinets are pretty safe.
