Do I need a Hunter speed control for a Hunter fan?

I have to replace my old 3 speed fan control in the wall. Light is wired separately. When I removed the old control, it is 2.0 amps but the fan has been changed several times since the switch was installed and we haven't had any trouble. We now have about a 6 yr old Hunter fan and I can't find a model number or anything on the fan. I found a 1.6 amp specifically for Hunter fans and a 1.5 and a 5 amp at Lowes. Does it matter which I use? (Couldn't stay on hold any longer with Hunter tech support.)

The generic 1.5 should be fine for your average SINGLE hunter fan.
