 o
does this need to be a GFCI?

My house was built in 1950. All of the outlets above the kitchen counter were switched to GFCI's before I bought the house, but there is an outlet below the sink (for the garbage disposal) that is still the original 1950's outlet. I am getting ready for a kitchen remodel and I wonder if this outlet should also be a GFCI? If not, since it is so old, should I have it replaced as along as the elctrician is out here doing other work?
Thanks!

Abbey

NO, it does not need to be GFI protected.
Yes, you should replace the receptacle if it is that old.
