C/B Tripping Only For A Certain Amount Of Time

Posted by marshh (My Page) on

A circuit breaker keeps tripping at home only after some heavy rainfall, though after an hour or two I am able to reset the breaker and it works fine again. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thanks

Wet conductors somewhere.

Once they dry out the breaker can be reset.

Check outside outlets (receptacles and lighting).

Water is not an especially good conductor, but if enough ionic material is present in the water it can conduct.
A short path (or a large area) can be enough to trip 15 and even 20 A breakers.

Do you have a pump anywhere?
