4 wire outlet, 3 wire heater - can it work?

I have an unused 4 wire 30 amp 240v outlet, and I was given a 30 amp 240v heater that I would like to use with it. However, the heater requires a 3 wire hookup. Can I use a 4 wire cord with this heater? Of course, the question would then be what to do with the fourth wire in the cord (which would logically seem to be the white)?. Can this be done? Thanks.

You just leave the neutral (white) wire disconnected. The heater doesn't need it.
