Splicing #6 to #8 wire for a stove connection

SuperEgg

I have a Cook top 40 amp/240V and a Wall Oven 20 amp/240V on #6 wire and a 50 amp double pull breaker. 1 red, 1 black and 1 white and a bare ground wire.

I have a #8 wire 1 black 1 red and 1 ground from a previous stove connection. Currently it is on a 40 amp double pull breaker.

I want to splice and connect the #8 wire with the 40 amp double pull to the #6 wire connected to the stove and cook top. And run the stove off this circuit.

Is this an acceptable electrical connection?
