Surge protected light switches?

I have large form factor light switches (including 3 & 4 way) throughout house controlling many recessed lights. Occasionally, the surge when turning on a switch blows a bulb. Annoying enough with incandescent bulbs.

I am replacing the bulbs with ($20/bulb) LED bulbs to save energy . It would really cost if I lose these bulbs due to a surge!

Does anyone make light switches that protect against this? I think a capacitor properly sized across the switch would be enough to protect the bulbs but am not sure. Would be nice to protect at switch since each switch controls a string of bulbs.

Any other thoughts on this. Have not experienced a failure on an LED bulb, but given long payback period and expected life it is a concern. Are LED bulbs internally protected?

Have tried Florescent, but they are a joke--drop to half brightness within a year if turned on and off a lot(work well in office when left on all day--life expectancy a function of number of on/off cycles)
