problem with switch

I have a wall switch which controls my exterior lights on either side of my garage. The switch contains a timer which I have set to turn the lights off and on at a certain time. I just noticed a few days ago that the lights are not switching off in the morning. I have manually turned them off and they come back on at the time I previously set but won't turn off via the timer. When I went to turn them off today they won't turn off at all. I plan on having an electrician replace the switch soon, but in the meantime do these lights present any problem by being on constantly? Does the fact that the switch won't turn them off indicate a problem that needs to be fixed asap? I am somewhat paranoid/cautious when it comes to electrical issues, so I am wondering if I need to get this switch replaced asap, or if it can wait a few days. Thanks for any suggestions.
