surface raceway to standard in-wall box?

My house has some surface wiring. I'm not crazy about the conduit but i can live with it. What I loath are the full-depth surface mount electrical boxes. I have been looking at the conduit connectors around but haven't found what I want.

I'd like to find an elbow that took the surface raceway in to the wall, so that I could replace the surface boxes with standard old work boxes. Has anyone seen anything like this or otherwise gone from surface wire to a standard in-wall box?

I cannot recall seeing a fitting and switch-plate that allows this.

Usually if you have depth behind the wall you put in a JB and than top it with a surface raceway box.

That makes sense -- i could put my JB/surface box up at the top of the wall so I'm not bumping my furniture. It seems suboptimal, but maybe it won't be so bad.
