Problems with plastic corks

Hi All!
Just wondering if anyone else has had difficulties opening bottles of wine with the plastic cork. We use the "rabbit" opener to uncork our wine. A few times we have had difficulty with the corkscrew pulling out, but not bringing the plastic cork with it. It becomes a real pain to get the plastic cork out, the corkscrew just keeps slipping out of the cork after it has made a hole in it.
Happy New Year!

I am thinking it might be your opener. I couldn't open those corks till I got one of those 'rabbit ears' openers, now I have no troubles.

We use a "Rabbit" type opener, and have had no trouble opening wine with synthetic corks. They usually come with a spare wine screw, so if you have one I would try replacing the one on your opener.

We had a super bowl party on Sunday, and the plastic cork is still stuck in the wine opener. I hate plastic corks.

I have a rabbit type opener, and I think I recall reading in the instructions that it wasn't to be used with plastic corks. I have done it anyway, and haven't had a problem... yet.

I broke two "Rabbit" type openers in the past on plastic corks. Bought an "Estate" opener made in Midlothian Va, about $80 online. Clamps on the edge of a counter and looks real cool.. neat Victorian style. It has never faced a cork of any type it could not pull with ease. Also it will recork your unfinished wine too.

BTW, quality of real cork is deteriating and I have had a number of really fine wines that were "corked" in recent years. never will happen with the composite plastic ones

Usually the plastic sticks to the side of the bottle if the bottle is shiped or stored upright. Keep the bottles on their sides always.
