9/4/2016 i wanted to buy the Venetian 80" mirror - on sale $400 but then i was at the store and the manager says $200 shipping?? i was like have it shipped to your store and i will pick up! she said no" so i said GOODBYE! She actually said "goodbye" and i will not be shopping at RH anymore - there are Way too many retailers out there with free shipping, lower shipping or pick up. What about a flower subscription so that a fresh bouquet is delivered once a month for 6 months to a year? Bloomsy Box, Bouqs, and UrbanStems all come to mind. A gift card to Williams Sonoma may be nice. Or if you know of a boutique she likes to purchase from to decorate her own home, that would be appreciated, I'm sure. I agree that gifting actual decor items could be difficult unless you know of something specific she has her eye on.

Lucille - I believe I understood your point. I was simply disagreeing with Elmer's generalization about "much more sensible approaches." Facing up to the reality of the situation and being prepared to deal with it is always important, and that's what I understood you to be saying; however, sometimes the sensible approach to reality is in fact to retreat. There's no negotiation with falling bombs, and often there's no standing fast in the face of an advancing bushfire either. And could someone please remind Elmer that a civilian population in a civilized country is having to deal with this very reality right now. The soldiers are fighting but the civilians are helpless to negotiate anything at all. And they are certainly not the only population to have faced that particular challenge in my lifetime.
