Rene LaLou 1969 Champagne-Too old to drink and is worth anything

Have been trying to track down some answers concerning a bottle of 1969 Rene La Lou champagne gifted to my mother in law on her wedding day in 1978. This bottle would already have been nearly 10 yrs old but as we are in 2008's end, would this bottle be still drinkable??? Would it be of any value to either a champagne officanado or collector??? Have been trying all sorts of websites and blogs but to no avail for answers. My mother in law just passed away and we are cleaning out the house to ready it for estate sale and happened upon this bottle. My sister in law was wondering if it would bring any $$$ if possible? Anyone know how to answer this question. Thanks

If it's been kept in perfect conditions in regards to temperature, humidity and well away from light, there's a chance that it could be still good though I'd guess it's lost at least something over time.

A quick Google on it shows that winesearcher finds it at $140 / bottle but I think it might be worth more on sentimental value just based on the history.

Here is a link that might be useful: wine searcher link

Your choices are drinking or selling or keeping longer.

No reason to keep it longer if you don't have a place to keep it.

As makalu points out - provenance is key. If this was not kept in some professional storage where temp and humidity were regulated, but it was just in a baseement or some casual place, it's unlikely you'll find anyone willing to pay decent money for it.

Thus, you're left with the third choice - drinking it yourself. It may not be too bad.

Sorry about your mother in law.
