Are my wines expensive?

Posted by chardo (My Page) on

Over the years, I have received the following Lafite Rothschild wines as gifts:

Carruades de Lafite 1995, 1996, and 2002
Chateau Duhart-Milon 2002 and 2004

I keep thinking they're valuable and should be saved for a special occasion, but that occasion never seems to come. Anyone know if these are particularly expensive wines?

Moulin de Duhart has a second label, Moulin. The 2004 is about $25 or so. The main label is generally around the mid $50s, give or take, depending on where you shop, so it's not really all that expensive.

The 2002 is going to be less expensive because it was a pretty bad year in most of Bordeaux. A lot of money has been spent on that winery by the Rothchilds, and they are getting better each vintage. I'd probably drink that 2002 fairly soon, as it wasn't a stellar vintage.

The Carruades de Lafite is several times the price of the Duhart, even for the 2002 vintage. Much more expensive. But somehow I think you might know that?

If you don't store these properly of course, who knows what they're worth. If they're just in your kitchen, or in your basement, that's not doing them any good.

95 Carruades: Decent, won't get better.Drink now. approx$50-75
96 Carruades: As above but less "fruit" approx$40.00
02 Carruades: Like the above, more fruit in this one. $40-50

02 Duhart: not as good as Carruades. drink. closed wine $30.
04 Duhart: another ok but not great year. drink or hold for a couple of more years. $30
