Bottling Dandelion Wine

Posted by kriswrite (My Page) on

I have never made wine before, but THIS is the year I'm going to try dandelion wine. My question is: Can I bottle it in canning jars/lids? Or do I have to use bottles with corks? I am a bit worried about jars exploding, too...What should I know about that?

RE: Bottling Dandelion Wine

Wow-I celebrated my parents 60th aniversary with my last bottle of 35 year old dandelion wine in November. It was great, like a nice sherry. So go for it. You can bottle it any way; screw cap wine bottles are good to recycle. Don't use canning jars as they allow too much surface area for oxygen to get into the wine. As for explosions- just make sure fermentation is truely over and stabilize with sulphite. Paul
