wine prices around the world

I'm writing from Dicky Beach on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.

I'm curious about how much people pay for wine around the world - from the cheap BBQ guzzler types of wine to the stuff you'd put on the table when mum and dad come around.

here's some examples from australia (in ozzie dollars - one aussie dollar is worth about 74 cents USA; 62 cents Euro, 84 cents canadian; 42 pence british

5 litre cask red, white, rose, lambrusco - from $8 - $14 for BBQ guzzling wine

2 litre cask - better quality about $15

lambrusco 750ml bottle - $4 - $8

reds 750 ml bottle - $4 - $22 and then as high as you want to go

whites 750 ml bottle - $4 - $15 and then as high as you want to go

bubbly - 750 ml bottles:

passionfruit pop (a favourite for underage drinkers - my first taste of alcohol outside the home) $4

asti $5 - $10

"good" australian champers - $10 - $25

veuve cliquot - $50 +

Moet - $60 +

hope you don't mind me starting a price comparison - but I'd love to hear how much everyone else pays

PS - when I lived in Scotland in the 1990s the local "off-licence" had an amazing variety of wines available from just about every wine producing country in the world - I loved trying the bottles of red from Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Ecuador etc etc most of which were available for 3 or 4 pounds a bottle and really taught me about the varieties and qualities available.

cheers
