I can't find a catalog that sells any only table grapes.

Bart, the primary difference in the grapes you mention is your wine grapes are pure vinafera and the table grapes are hybrid vinafera/american. There is some difference in table vs wine but the vinafera/hybrid difference is bigger. Most hybrid grapes are much more resistant to diseases but it does vary from variety to variety. I am a primarily organic grower and I found vinafera a huge pain which took up way too much of my time so I pulled out my wine grapes this spring. I now have primarily hybrids and just a couple vinafera table grapes. Usually by now I have had to do 4-5 sprays but this year I have done only one and the grapes still look fine (even the couple vinafera look fine - their neighbors are all un-diseased and that must help). So, a rough guide is half or fewer sprays are needed; save your tank leftovers for them. As far as pruning goes I used the same for all types but I am not in to all of the subtle stuff of grape pruning. Some table varieties are considered better pruned to canes and other pruned to spurs, but I always used spur pruning for all my grapes. Scott

I have Steuben (mid Sept, purple-black, sweet, seeded), Ontario (mid Aug., white, seeded, sweet) and Buffalo (early Sept., blue-black, seeded, concord flavor). All are very disease resistant and I've never needed to spray them against mildew or fungal disorders. I will be pruning over the next week and can send cuttings if you're interested. As I said, I don't grow any of the grapes up here - primarily due to lack of sufficient sun on my property - but what the local organinc vineyards that I've visited are growing are primarily Cabernet Franc, Seyval and Riesling with a couple of plantings of Chardonnay. Some of them up here also grow fruits such as raspberries and blackberries to make specialty wines (mostly sweet wines) that seem to draw people to on-site tastings from a novelty aspect. Actually, both of the wines that I had were pure / almost pure varietals and I think that they could definitely have benefited from some blending and possibly a little more time in oak - I'd say I liked them less than my normal vin ordinaire but they weren't so bad that they got used solely for marinades. My tasting preferences run towards less oaked merlot / cabernets in the reds and sauvignon blancs in white but it's always good to expand the palate and try both different varieties and growing locations since you can find some real gems out there if you're willing to taste some cooking wine too.

Try eBay. I bought some Zinfandel vines there not long ago.

How did you do with those zinfindel vines? Did it take a good 2-3 years to get them up and coming? What is the yield per grapevine?

I am just DYING to add a bunch of concord grapevines to my suburban 'FARM" along with with the rest of the stuff i grow here, but i am hesitant, as i fear they will freeze over the harsh winters here in chicago..they are not CHEAP to buy..

Who in zone 5 has a good grape crop?

Sunflower123, zone 5 is a ways north of you ... it's anywhere where the winter temperatures are -10 to -20 degrees F.

Haven't had any luck with wine grapes up here yet - I know that there are some vineyards that have successful plantings of Seyval and maybe some Cabernet Franc near me but I don't know where they got their plantings.

I ordered my vines this year from Double A too. The nice thing about them is they have a huge variety to choose from and there is no minimum quantity required. I bought 3 vines of 5 varieties.
