Need to replace patio slider door

Our house was built in 1990. We have a 96X80 (standard) slider that needs to be replaced. It's very difficult to open and cannot open all the way. Makes a lot noise when its opened. We are on the hillside and our house has settled some on that side. Wondering if a new slider would be ok or should we consider a french door? Also want to take advantage of the energy rebate.

Slider will be fine if the opening is properly leveled prior to installation.

As an operator type, French doors are usually more problematic.

In that size opening you would most definitely need a replacement unit as new const. would not fit in that rough opening.

You may be able to remove some interior trim and re-plumb and square the existing door instead of replacing it.
