Best Patio Door Config for a Small Opening

Hi all

I would like to replace my bedroom window with a hinged door and ventable sidelight or french doors. It's a 4.5 opening and I'd rather not mess with enlarging and replacing the header.

Someone suggested a hinged atrium and a long, narrow casement. I think I'd rather have french doors (w/ no grilles)and a retractable screen but I am not sure.

I'd like a good, energy efficient brand that isn't astronomically priced.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

On a french (double door), you are limited to the available slab widths. There are products available with a 2'4" slab (28"). That should probably be closest to your size depending on how accurate your measurement is. You may deal with some limited style availability though as it is not a common size. I can say for sure that thermatru offers that size, and I believe that HomeGuard and Provia do as well.
I think that the french double door would look the best in that application.
