Simonton replacement windows

Our contractor suggested Simonton Asure windows for our newly purchased fixer-upper since we told him we wanted to maximize our view of the water (not waterfront, we are not that rich) and those have a thinner frame.
however when we searched for reviews, the Asure was dissed as being for "rentals and flippers", while the Reflections 5500 is highly touted. Looking at the simonton site, the differences between the two seem to be the low E glass and Argon in the Reflections, and the screen has an extruded frame. Are there other difference they are not telling me? why is there such a low opinion of the Asure?

The Simonton Asur is very flimsy and cheap looking. The reflections 5500 is more solid. Although not big fan of simonton due to their less than stellar performance numbers, go with the 5500. The Asure is garbage.
He is probably trying to save you money if you gave hime the " we are on a budget " line.

    +1

I realize the frame profile on that 5500 what we might refer to as bulky, nothing about the Asure is "assuring" when it comes to long term durability and strength.

thank you for your replies!! Just So that I know how to talk to our contractor, the durability and strength issue is due to the thinner frame? or are there other things that make it garbage? (The windows have already arrived at the house - not installed yet)

No, not just a thinner frame. Its not designed/ engineered well and tit has a high air leakage rate. Stay away. There are other windows with thinner frames that are very strong and air tight. Sunrise vanguard windows and okna come to mind,

thank you again. But since the windows are already made and delivered to the house....There probably is not a "Return" or "exchange" policy for windows.... Are we stuck with them or do we have to pay another $12,000 to order the 5500s? the contractor is telling us they are fine he wants to start installing!!

Unfortunately I'd have to agree with the other pros. That said, not sure that you have much choice at this point unless you are willing to eat the cost of those windows. They are custom made to fit your openings. Best bet is probably to have them installed at this point and hope for the best. A very high quality installation will be imperative.

Have them installed and you'll be fine. Are they Simonton's best offering? No, but they will be just fine.

You're dealing with window pros here who are very particular about windows and we are sometimes prone to making the perfect the enemy of the good. In this case, you have already purchased windows from a solid manufacturer who stands behind their products, so move ahead with them and don't look back.

Best wishes with your new house.
