triple paned and gas filled windows

Hello all;
I have a fair understanding of the inert gasses, and glass refraction from physics and chemistry in college, BUT it has been a while.
I plan to build a SIP home in western Colorado in the summer of 2014. I currently live in a SIP house in Kentucky. I installed double paned vinyl clad windows in the current house, but want to use state of the art windows and doors in the next house since it will be much colder there. I used a fenestration calculator to determine gross square feet of glass, and have calculated the roof over hang at 2 feet for the new latitude to keep sun out in summer and allow it in in winter. There is a lot of information out there and some of it conflicts.
Please be kind enough to express your opinions on gasses, film coatings, and window frames WRT to thermal bridging, and any other things you may know that can help me make an informed decision on fenestrations.
TYVM
