Marvin Intergrity Ultrex vs Simonton 5500

We are building in Northeast Mississippi and it is time to order windows. We have been researching on this forum for several months and think we have it narrowed down to Marvin Integrity all Ultrex and Simonton 5500. Got a quote for 22 windows on a farm-style/low country house (white inside and out w/black shutters). The Ultrex came in at $6,200 and Simonton at $4950. I was leaning toward Ultrex, but getting cold feet after reading couple of opinions that the inside aren't that pretty. Which would you recommend or is there another brand that is comparable in price to these two that would be recommended?
Thanks!

Are they double hung, slider or casements? The double hung and slider hardware look a little ugly. The casement I think is much better than the Simonton.

The Ultrex are single hung and Simonton are double hung.

The pictures are great of the outside, but no interior pictures. Does anyone have interior pictures? Btw, sorry for the misspelling in the title of Integrity. Can't figure out how to correct.

I'd take the Simonton and maybe add lift handles, super spacer and sash reinforcement. I'd take a look at the windows in person if you haven't done so and go with the one you like best. They Marvin is skinny and the Simonton a little chunky. Simontons look good in larger openings and new construction and the Marvins don't look good but may be better suited to smaller openings.

Great advice from Todd above. There are some other great vinyl options to consider that will outperform the Simonton (Softlite, Okna, Sunrise, Polaris, Vytex, Gorell to name a few), but the Simonton loaded up as Todd described is solid.

Here is a pic of my all ultrex. I don't think think they are ugly but beauty is in the eye of the beholder;). They are a huge improvement over my old ugly windows!!

On my house I wanted windows that were white on the inside and a color on the outside. I also wanted grids on the front of my house that were not between the glass. I did the wood/ultrex on the front and the all ultrex single hung on the back to save money.

I had an interior designer helping me with my selections and I asked her if I should just blow my budget and do the definitely prettier wood/ultrex everywhere. She said that once I hung window treatments I really wouldn't notice the actual window that much and that my money would be better spent elsewhere.

Nice pics Sheila. Just for the reference of others, most premium vinyl lines do offer exterior colors including custom matching available with white interiors.

@llyom, regarding the looks of the Integrity, part of it is that it is SOOO slim lined that it can turn some people off. Additionally, the hardware (locks, tilt latches , etc) do not have the look or feel of a high end unit--kind of cheap to be quite frank. That said, it is a solid unit (nothing that Marvin makes is bad IMO), it just does not offer anything that a premium vinyl unit will not offer, and in fact it falls short in performance. I like the Integrity line in general, I primarily recommend it however when homeowners desire a real wood interior and are willing to sacrifice some performance.

--and btw, Sheila, I do agree with your decision. I'd have recommended the same thing (re: all ultrex in areas that you are not concerned about the wood interior).

The three deal breakers for me on the all Ultrex Integrity is the snap away sill dam, the ugly tilt latches, and the overall flimsiness of the frame.

I agree with Ultra. Too many problems with that window, I avoid it like the plague.
