Really need advice for remodel & addition

I am trying to narrow down a manufacturer and am overwhelmed by the choices. I would love advice from this very knowledgeable forum. We are gutting a bungalow with rotted wood windows and adding on a second floor. I'm looking for a quality brand that is also cost effective. It's probably important to note we live in Texas. We are looking for a low maintenance and durable product which rules out wood. I know we will not maintain that. We have looked at Home Depot (Andersen) and Lowe's (Pella). We had thought the Andersen product was fairly priced for the insulation it provided, but we were unable to get anybody to come out and measure for us. So, we began looking around and have seen Marvin, Jeldwen, and a few other brands. Could anybody help me narrow it down to a few reputable brands that I may or may not have considered? Also, any recommendation on aluminum vs vinyl would be so very much appreciated. THANK YOU in advance!!
