just to see if anyone has good source for good quality but lower cost window coverings--
cellular shades or faux wood blinds--need for house we are putting on market...
they are not standard size windows because of length--most are 70-72 inches long...
Pennys is running sale but someone posted that their prices are high anyway

RE: window coverings

I ordered cordless cellular shades from JC Penney about three years ago for roughly $30 each. I'm pretty sure they were on sale and I found the price to be very competitive for the size I needed. The windows were 27 x 72 (French doors). I got the Antique Linen and loved the color.

I was very impressed with the intial look and feel of the blinds - plus they were very easy to install.

Three years later, they have not held up well. The first thing that happened was that one shade got a tear in in and then one of the other shades broke while I was pushing it up and then another one got very finicky and sticky when I was pulling it down and eventually something broke on the top so it doesn't work.

Bottom line: they may be the least expensive option for you and actually will look great while your house is on the market. It's a bonus for a buyer to inherit window treatments (I know, I'm a realtor:) so you don't need to worry if they don't last too long.
