Vinyl Tracks to Replace Hideous Aluminum

I've got old wood windows in my pre-1978 house. Not having them replaced. But there are hideous aluminum tracks I need to get rid of. Is there a vinyl product I can put in for tracks? The HD kid actually told me it would be cheaper to replace the windows. Really. I'll cut vinyl if I need to.

Yes, there is. You can replace the old aluminum tracks with vinyl tracks, but probably have to replace the sash as well. The vinyl tracks and new sash are sold as a 'kit' to replace old inefficient glass and balance systems. The new Sash Kit allows your upper and lower sash to tilt in for cleaning as well. Least expensive way to upgrade your windows and tracks and is a do it yourself job in most cases.
Check out Hurd Windows (hurd.com) and look up Sash Replacement Kit for more info.

Thanks, dopgolf. I'm concerned about the new regulations on lead paint. Is a window sash replacement considered renovation and therefore requiring special procedures to take care of the lead paint issue?
