how long should it take to get a window quote?

I am irritated because it's been 2 weeks since I've asked a local window dealer to give me a quote on a 2600sf house. Nothing fancy. No arches no nothing. Just double hung clad. I asked for a quote on the Integrity's and the Jeldwen Sitelines. I know. I know. No one here likes Jeldwen, but they come in blue and I really want blue windows. I'm going for this look, and I can't achieve it with white windows.

anyway, back to the quote. is two weeks normal? i called last week and he said he was "getting to it".

While I would like to say that is unacceptable and you should be mad, I might be shooting myself in the foot.

The reason being is that I could probably give you 20 customers that would tell similar stories.

It is tough as a business to manage the work flow and often times, the business cycle is not truly cyclical. There are ebbs and flows and sometimes we get buried by customers and are behind the curve.

I would send him/her a friendly reminder and see what they can do to speed it up.

Exactly as wow said, while 2 weeks is generally unacceptable 95% of the time with the crapper the economy has been in and the sudden uptick in the construction business whether storm or economy related it has definitely effected staffing levels and available competent help.

ok. thanks. i've been in the shop twice and there are a bunch of guys just sitting around, except for the one man that can give the estimates. i don't understand what the other 4 younger guys do and why they can't give estimates. oh well. the wait continues.

i have decided that i want a quote for Kolbe Kolbe premium on the front and their windquest on the back and sides -- they both come in blue!!!

i'm bummed though, that i have to call and ask for a Kolbe quote in addition to the quote i'm still waiting on.

Kolbe Windquest is their vinyl line for impact hurricane areas. They can be painted but it almost ends up costing more than just an aluminum clad window. If you're doing double hung windows get the Kolbe Ultra Series Sterling Double Hung.

Depends on what he committed to and how detailed the plans are and if there is anything he may need factory approval or pricing for. Everything may seem basic and easy from your perspective but it may not actually be so. Let him be thorough, if you rush him he may make mistakes. Kolbe quotes are the ones that take forever, slow system and a ton of questions,("Do you want jambs to be exact?") nooo, send me whatever you got...

Regarding the lines you are looking at, I am a big fan of Jeld-Wen Siteline EX, but when it comes to double hungs you will be MUCH happier with Kolbe. Trust me spend the extra 10% +/-.
