What is the style of the home?

Shouldn't it be specified by the architect and in the plans?

It is country french. I am sure it is in the plans, but I wouldn't know the first thing about understanding that. My husband talked to someone about it, and they said that it is a maintenance nightmare, but I have seen so many beautiful homes with it, so I thought there must be someone out there who has done this and knows how to keep it from rotting or leaking into the windows. I am hoping to convince my husband to do it, if I can get info. from someone who has done it, and hasn't had any problems with it. I am also wondering about the cost.

Here is a picture of it over stone. Ours will be over brick that resembles stone. It is a tumbled grayish brick.

They are not necessarily a maintenance nightmare if you edge prime and seal all the cut ends.

I would also make sure there is a drip cap installed between the stone and the top of the timber that will serve to divert the water away as well as help with the capillary break.

Make sure the wood is very old and very dense.
