In order to avoid the 50's cliche of a picture window with flanking casements in your living room I would recommend two double-hungs with a single stud between them.

Two Marvin Ultimate double-hungs CUDH 4026 should fit but the existing rough opening should be carefully checked to be sure. Two double hungs should be about the same or less cost than two casements and a picture window since casements are so expensive.

This design avoids a conflict with casements opening onto a deck area. It also avoids all the stuff that collects between the casement sash and the interior screen if you like to leave your windows open for ventilation.

We did what you desccribed with Marvin. Instead of have 2 separate windows with a skinny wall in between, the contractor suggested a large window. So we ended up creating a large opening using four large casement as one unit. We also specified how the casement will open so it can redirect breezes into our house in the summer.

If you do not want to use Marvin, check other brands that may offer the same flexibility.

Make sure they are tempered glass units.
