windows with shutters & storm windows

I've heard that shutters can't closed completely if there are exterior storm windows present.

Is there anyway to correct this problem besides using interior storm windows?

What type of shutters? Hurricane shutter?

Depending on wall depth and window set, an exterior storm window may or may not encroach on the closing pathway of the shutter.

Interior shutters would alleviate this concern if space is at a premium.

Like windowsonwashington said, it would depend on your wall depth and window set. I personally have exterior storm windows and I’m able to completely close my shutters.

My home is missing all its shutters. A neighbor said he has exterior storm windows but could not close his shutters when a major storm came.

If I choose to replace the shutters, I would also like to be able to close them if necessary. I understand exterior shutters also protect the wood windows.
