Anderson french doors

I need to replace a sliding door with a french door or patio door. My first question is:

Is it worth going with a double hinged door? Do you ever use the second door? I am debating on whether to go with one of the doors being fixed.

I haven't completely decided on whether or not to go with anderson. They seem to have a good reputation. I am looking into going with the 400 series or A series lines. It will be an outswing models. What other manufacturers are on par with anderson or a better value?

What is the difference between A series and 400 series doors? I don't think I can go with the 200 line since I am going with an outswing door.

The A series is the 400 series with some improvements but basically the same door. As for the one fixed panel, the only real advantage is you can have a sliding rather than a hinged screen. I think in the end you may regret not having both panels open. The day may come when you want to move something through that double opening and you will be glad you ordered it.

We are looking at a similar project at the moment. The installer who recommended Andersen as an option for us said the difference between these two was that the A-series uses a combination of fiberglass/fibrex on the exterior of a wood door, where the 400 series is a thick vinyl paint on a wood door. The same installer recommended Pella Designer Series over both of these.
