Guardian RLE 71/38 Reversed? (Surface #3)

A neighbor has suggested looking at Paradigm windows before we plunk down money on Marvins.

We were looking at using the low e 272 glass in the Marvins, which is from Cardinal. Paradigm uses RLE 71/38 glass from Guardian. And, just to complicate matters for the feeble minded, it offers a "reversed" version with the coating on Surface #3 (rather than surface #2).

Since we are in New England and have a beautiful, clear run of windows due South which are heavily shaded in summer with mature, deciduous trees, we could use the higher solar heat gain but don't want it at the expense of heat loss at night because we are NOT set up for passive solar (no thermal mass, too much glazing for size home, etc.); for that reason we opted AGAINST using the Cardinal 180 glass in favor of the 272.

Can anyone help me compare the Cardinal 272 product with the Guardian RLE 71/38 (surface #2 and surface #3)?
