| Dear xoldtimecarpenter, you have posted so thoughtfully here on GW. Our kitchen renovation is almost completely done, and I hope you'll see it on the Kitchen Forum: there are three 100-year-old fir windows on the northern wall, and one brand-new fir window on the western wall, built to match the old ones, by a carpenter in Maine. The new window is also TDL, double-hung and counterweighted and single-glazed, made of vertical grain fir. We haven't yet gotten around to replacing the ugly aluminum triple-track storms -- we'll have to paint the exterior, first! (does this ever end?) -- but I was surprised at how not-drafty was the new window, with as yet no storm. Presumably because it is brand-new caulking and weather-stripping.
If you get a chance to go to the Kitchen Forum, come see our before/after kitchen!

| And Oberon, hope you'll take a look, too, because I've learned a lot from you. The work on the rest of the house's windows will happen in the next year or two, before we paint. Llynn |

| Very well done. I like everything there with the one small exception to the lighting. That is just a personal preference thing though. Lovely kitchen |
