Choosing window style for large opening

I am struggling with choosing a window style to replace an old picture window in the front of my house. My biggest issue is that this window is right above the walk way to my front steps/entryway, so if I get a bay or bow window, it will jut out into my walkway. As much as I like these windows, I'm afraid this style will look awkward hanging over the walk way. Would it be better to just replace it with a new picture window, or 3 double hung style? Thanks for any advice!

I would agree that a bow/bay window would be a bad idea there. How big is the opening and what type of window are you going to use? When i say type i mean what material (vinyl, wood, fiberglass, aluminum, composite)?

+1. You don't want a bay window sticking way out over the sidewalk. That said, a bow would not project out too far if you really like that style. The question is if it is worth the substantial $ premium over a flat bank of windows. A 3-lite slider would look good there. It would still offer the drama of having a larger "picture" window in the center, and save some $ and add glass area. The existing configuration is very conventional, but the opening almost seems a little too small for it.

Bow window with a slight projection might still fit but you can talk to your window contractor and they can give you projection dimensions.
