Need advice on vinyl windows...Price sounds too good to be true. The installer is supplied by Accu-Weld. How does the product rank on the market? We're planning on staying in the house for years to come and don't want to regret our choice.

I would not recommend Accu-weld.

I have to agree with skydawggy again. The price reflects the value.

Thanks for the follow up! Is the Jeld Wen product any better?

A little better. Are you looking for vinyl or wood windows? What area of the country do you live in?

We live in Mobile, AL and it is often the rainiest city in the country. As a result, we're staying away from wood and going with vinyl.

I can't comment on any regionally manufactured brands but some of the larger companies like Gorell, Simonton, Softlite, Okna, as well as others, may be a better choice. Sometimes it just comes down to what's available to you. I would definitly call a few local companies and have them come out and talk to you about their windows so you can start to get some ideas of which ones suit you best. Maybe start by asking the installer you mentioned what other brands he would recommend. Although I must say I would have some concrns if he thinks Accu-Weld is a good window.

Thank you so much! I found a localy owned company that uses Gorell. They said that Gorell windows will bring about world peace, end poverty, etc...Just kidding. However, they do say that Gorrel is a top notch window. You listed it as well so we may go with Gorell. We're going to get a quote from Pella also. Any other words of wisdom for us...

Avoid Pella and Andersen vinyl windows. They are about the same quality as Accu-Weld.

Ask about the additional cost of LoE-3 glass with argon gas. It does a great job of reducing the Solar Heat Gain in the summer. I'd also check out Simonton. They have a factory near Atlanta so they are probably available to you. Go to www.Simonton.com and enter your zip code in the "find a dealer" box.

Let us know how it goes.
