Small Bathroom Window Questions.

The guest bathroom has a small window, but it is fixed and doesn't open. The window is in good shape, not broken or leaking. The bath is ventilated by a fan. We don't have guests that often, and guests say that the room doesn't get or stay overly steamy. There's no mold or any type of moisture damage.

I have gotten three quotes to replace the small fixed window (21" square) with the same size window that opens. They have all been almost exactly the same price, $1700. Nothing special, no special glass or anything.

A couple of questions:

1. Is it old-fashioned or out-of-touch to think a bathroom should have a window that opens? We are in Southern California, not in a very cold climate that needs protection from brutal weather. I just think fresh air in a bathroom makes for a better bathroom.

3. Does $1700 seem high to replace one window?

Thanks!
