Patio door replacement

We have an old patio door that needs to be replaced - it is probably 50 yrs old, and single glass windows. It is a 3-panel installation, total opening aprox. 12 ft. wide. It is a sliding glass door. We live in northern IL, and this sub-zero winter has reinforced the need to replace.

I have gotten three quotes, and would like to know if the prices (including installation) are appropriate, and thoughts on the brands.

Bid 1 - Sunrise Vinyl Ultra U+ $7169
Bid 2 - Prism Platinum by Simonton $3320
Bid 3 - Okna Elegente $3922

The sunrise and okna are both MUCH better than the simonton.

I would say the Okna door is actually a tad more well built than the Sunrise but the Sunrise gets the nod in terms of looks.

RE: Patio door replacement

I personally think that they are about even on looks. I like both products, but I too lean toward the okna as the superior performer. Better u value and air infiltration rating, plus it has a fully welded frame. I'm not a big fan of mechanically fastened vinyl products, as it is not a matter of if but when those joints will leak.

RE: Patio door replacement

I do like the hanging screen on the Sunrise if they are still doing that.

RE: Patio door replacement

The three panel 12' door with a 4 ' venting section is heavy and a tad challenging to operate. That Okna door will keep the draft and breeze off of you.

RE: Patio door replacement

Agree with the pros here - Okna and Sunrise are the top two.

I had my 12 foot wide patio door (3 panel one operating door) replaced in May 2013 - went with Sunrise. As windowsonwashington points out - aesthetics only.

My only question...why is the Sunrise being quoted more than the Okna and Simonton??? There should not be that big of a spread.
