Just getting started on the investigation into replacing windows (and siding) on a 40 yr old home. Read through a lot of the forums here, and I'm grateful for the non-biased expertise here.

I've taken note of some of the major recommended manufacturers. I'm looking for a moderately priced replacement window, vinyl probably, double hung. Energy efficiency is a given, considering our crappy windows in place now. I've yet to get quotes from contractors or suppliers. I have a very good friend who has been in the home contracting business for 20+ years that will probably do the work on the siding and window replacement.

Any beginning guidance would be appreciated. I will post updates and questions as I move forward into this investigative process.
