Interior window sash and sill finish ideas?

Our kitchen was just too dark even on sunny days. New house and this would be a flaw in design. I like bright! now, how or what do people think would be good to finish the inside frame of the window? tile, wood, gyproc ??? I'm open to any and all ideas! also if you know of a post that has photos please post it ok?? (that opens into a stairwell to basement, the stairwell has a huge window that lets in tons of light

If it is inside a backsplash area, tile trim (i.e. picture box) looks good.

Other than than, a casing that is already used throughout the house is good or a simple drywall return if you are going for the modern look.
