You should not be that disappointed. There is some focus loss as a result of the flexible tube compared to the rigid option but they usually bring in so much light that the difference is slight and a vast improvement over the current darkness.

Thanks WOWashington for your comment. We may be able to get away with a rigid tube, but if not it is good to know the flex tube would still be worth the cost/effort.

Has anyone tried the new flat profile sun tunnel by Velux? Given the sun tunnel we would like to install is at the front of the house, I was interested in the new flat profile option to avoid the big dome being so visable. However, the front of our house is north facing, so not sure if we can use the flat profile (no tree overhangs).

Haven't tried a flat one just yet. They seem to let in a bit less light if memory serves me and they will get covered by snow rather quickly.

Not as much of any issue for me but you being up North it is probably a consideration.

Good reminder about the snow, although most winter days there is no snow that stays on the roof in Southern Ontario. I did email Velux and they said the flat sun tunnel is approved for all elevations. However, I imagine the light from a flat top could not be the same as the dome. Perhaps I will call Velux, and see if they have any stats on how much less light comes in with the flat top vs the dome. If I do go ahead with the flat cap, I will report back on this forum.
