 o
Making sidelights burglar proof

Posted by albartsch (My Page) on

This is my second window question today.

I have a lovely front door, with sidelights. These sidelights, 10 on each side, are just thin single panes. Obviously very insecure. In fact, some years ago, a burglar broke one to let himself in, but was scared off when the alarm sounded as he opened the front door.

How can I make them more secure? 3M advertises "security film". I could also design a plexiglass screwed on panel behind the glass (and cover it with shear curtains). Or maybe someone sells metal grates, like the larger dog-storm-door grates I see at Home Depot.

Has anyone found a good solution?
