Solution for high heeled shoes sinking into grass

This is going to sound like spam, but it's not -- I have no interest in the company. But I remembered a string here some time ago in which the MOB was trying to figure out how to word an invitation to warn the women that the reception would be out on the grass, so they could plan their shoes accordingly.

I found a product that slips onto the ends of high heels (they have to be very narrow heels) and protects them. They have some sort of special discount for bridal parties.

They come in black and clear, and since you get free shipping if you buy 2 or more pairs, I bought one of each; I figured I could give one to my daughter. Each pair costs about $10, which is about what it costs to repair one shoe one time, so I do think they are well worth it.

They really are good. They were a godsend when we went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago in Florida that had two events where I had to keep walking across grass. I also like them for the neighborhoods in my city with cobblestone streets and for our driveway, which is crushed brick. They don't even look bad; I often just leave the black ones on when I get to my destination, especially if I'm wearing pants. I bought some for a friend's birthday, too, and she seemed pleased.

I also like that they come with a little plastic snap cover, so you can put them in your pocketbook when you remove them without getting everything dirty and having to dig around for them when it's time to go.

Thanks for passing on the information. My concern with walking on grass in high heels is with balance and what it does to the grass, especially if the grass is the least bit damp.

These things supposedly help a little bit with balance, too, because they enlarge the surface somewhat. I had less trouble walking across the grass than usual, although I'm not sure how much of that was just because I didn't have to try to protect my shoes. I don't know how much it helps the grass; seems like it might, especially if it's not wet. I really was just thinking about not spoiling my shoes; I've wrecked so many on cobblestones and sidewalks.

How much does it cost to show a horse, or to shoe one, Cathy? Every horse show has entry fees, it regularly cost me $35-$50 to enter barrel racing events. Shoes? That depends. Just a clip and file costs $20, or $5 a foot. Cope's shoes will need to be removed, the hoof clipped and filed and the shoes replaced in about 2 months. That will cost me $45 ($20 for the clip and file and $25 to reset the shoes). This particular episode cost me $85 because I had to buy the shoes. Fortunately, they can be reused several times as long as he doesn't lose one, also known as "throwing a shoe". I have my horses done usually 4 times a year at $20 a visit, not so bad. With Cope's health issue right now, Ron will come every two months instead, until we can be sure he's alright. I will admit that farrier services are very cheap here, considering that Ron drives from farm to farm and the cost of gas. I know anywhere around cities or big "horse areas" the shoes I got Copenhagen would cost closer to $150. Annie

gellchom, all of your posts were great! I recently attended a training session through my work called "Win - Win" (I should remember the rest but I don't, LOL). We learned about four different types of personalities and yours is definitely BLUE (Which is what we strive to be). Sleepyhollows is definitely RED (Which is undesirable, bullyish). There is also GREY (Which is depressed, doesn't care, doesn't matter) and GREEN (Doormat, enabler). In each instance your responses lead me to the BLUE mode where you get the facts and communidate effectively. Blue also tries to not sweat the small stuff. In my own life I try to pick my battles wisely. I laughed when I read Sleepyhollows attack on the smoker outside of a restaurant. Your response was much more reasonable. BTW, Reds die earlier and have less friends. The group that puts on the training session is the Jack Parr Associates (not affiliated with the entertainer).

When I was first diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, the podiatrist recommended a couple of shoe brands and also told me to go to a certain local store, where they would make me hard half-foot arch supports. They worked, but I found their lack of flex to be a little uncomfortable. I went back and he had me step into a box of stuff that made a mold of my feet. A few weeks later, I had some nice whole-foot cork orthodics that matched my feet exactly and were comfortable. I've worn them just about every day since then. Every year or two, I take them to a shoe repair place to re-cover, but they've been going strong since about 1998. It seriously makes a huge difference to get arch supports that are just right for your feet-- my arches are so high that over-the-counter ones don't help. Your husband will be happiest if he gets to the podiatrist even if he doesn't like going to doctors. Oh, and of the brands that the doctor recommended, one isn't good anymore (they got bought out), but the other is Mephisto. They're wickedly expensive, but they're absolutely perfect for my feet. If you husband wants sneakers instead of Birkenstock sandals, you might point him in the direction of Mephisto All-Rounders. They're very comfortable and have a removable footbed so that you can put in your own orthodics if you want to without your foot getting crowded in the shoe. I buy mine through Zappos because they're cheaper there than at the nearby brick-and-mortar stores. (Sorry, no-green-thumb. But it's $40-$50 more locally, which I think is too much.)

Oh, gosh, so sorry. Nothing very exciting to tell these days. I used to dance a lot. Now I have weird health issues that usually preclude all that. Attended a wedding last weekend and wanted to dance, for a change felt well enough to do so, and the floor had been spread with something that I had never heard of, referred to as "dance salt." It was extremely slippery. I decided after one dance that it was too hazardous for me and gave up. (Pretty demoralizing when there were a couple of eighty-somethings out there, looking really great!) Anyhow, I had a sudden recollection of that Hollywood shoe store from my shoe fetish days and how fabulous those shoes looked and felt, so I thought I'd ask my maven squad here at GW.

Anybody who wears heels to an event held on grass has to be daft. How can you enjoy yourself if you are trying to keep heels from sinking into the lawn. I gave up wearing heels 30 years ago and my feet thank me for it. There are many attractive dressy flats or some that have a miniscule heel. They look just as good and don't ruin the feet that you have to walk on for the rest of your life.

Guests don't always know in advance that they will be in such situations. I didn't, so I was really glad I brought those covers.

In any event, whether or not high heeled shoes are a good idea (on grass or otherwise) is not the point of this string. I was just sharing a product I found that is very helpful when you do choose to wear them when you may have to walk on grass, cobblestones, etc.

Ridiculing people who wear high heels or even saying something like "wear flats" (as if that weren't an obvious possibility) is what is known as "thread cra**ing" -- like responding to a question about wedding planning with something like "Marriage is an outdated institution!" or "You'd have to be insane to waste money on a fancy wedding!" It's poor forum etiquette; please don't do it.

Both my dd and I are wearing ballet slippers. They look like flats, and are great for the long day and night dancing. We are both wearing long gowns that will cover them anyway. She does have sexy shoes she will wear for the pictures...
