Ideas needed for Bridal Shower

I am "helping" the daughter of the bride give a Surprise bridal shower and I need some ideas for decorations. The wedding is fall themed but the party is at a mexican restuarant. I need table decoration ideas and easy favors as it is in one week. Wedding was thrown together in about 6 weeks. We have a cake. And I would like to stick to the colors of the wedding. Thanks!!

So what are the colors of the wedding? I think of pinatas when I think of a Mexican restaurant. Of course, those Mexican crepe paper flowers would be pretty too if you can get them. Or any flowers. Just make it pretty with ferns scattered on the table centers and then a bouquet in the center. Pick up one or several of the colors with the napkins. If the tables are long, run many long strands of ribbon down the center of each table too. You can use narrow ribbon or even gift wrap ribbon and curl it slightly. Sprinkle some heart shapes over the ribbons or use a heart shaped candy. Depends on your colors.

I'm thinking of sticking with the theme of the wedding. The colors are the colors of changing leaves. Shades of orange, eggplant, yellows etc. I am thinking of maybe small straw bales, mini gourds and pumpkins, and autumn leaves for centerpeices. But what to do for favors? Or I could go with snowmen (brides favorite). What do you think?

One of my favorite appetizers is a smoked salmon served with lemon wedges with crackers is both elegant and delicious.I make certain to buy a nice piece from a meat market or a speciality market.0 I make Brie eu Croutte which is easy and a huge hit when I take it somewhere. Instead of making a large single one I make small individual serving. Brie eu Croutte Cut a large sheet of puff pastry into wedges. Place a small and thin slice on a piece of the puff pastry. Top the cheese with a spoon of apricot jam, a small amount of brown sugar and chopped walnuts.Top with another small piece of brie. Wrap the puff pastry into a crescent shape. Brush tops with egg white and water. Bake 10-15 minutes. HOLY COW THESE ARE GOOD! This is not low cal by any means but one of the all time favorite appetizers and we entertain a lot. People devour these like they are popcorn at a movie. I don't have a name for them. 2 can of whole water chestnuts 1 pound of bacon cut into 1/2 inch strips wrap bacon around water chestnuts and bake at 350 for 1 hour. Drain off part but not all of the drippings. Mix 1 cup ketsup and 1 cup of sugar. Spoon over the water chestnuts and bake another 30 minutes or until the bacon is done and the edges are slightly crips. As I said we entertain and I cook for family and friends and have cooked for local events and this is the most requested recipe for a main dish. It's from a friend of mine. Maggie and Cheryls Chicken 1 cup soy sauce 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup orange juice 2 T vinegar 2 cloves crushed garlic. Marinate at least 3 hours. Remove meat from the marinade and grill, bake or you can cook it in a skillet which is easy. This is great on chicken but can also be used on pork. I mix and put it in a zip lock bag. If I think of anything else I'll add it. Hope it's a lovely event. I like the idea of the red carpet and Hollywood. Very cool. Sunny

Even though I like games, I'm not one for the types of games often associated with showers; they seem kind of silly to me. But I once went to a shower where they did something almost like a game, and I really loved it (as far as I could tell, everyone did). We each had to pull a slip of paper out of a bowl that had a topic on it associated with marriage -- not weddings, marriage. Then when it was our turn, we had to give a piece of advice or an anecdote or something to the bride. It was fascinating, because there were guests of both the bride's and her mom's generation. I learned a lot. It may not work as well if all the guests are the bride's contemporaries. I was just thinking about it today, and that was about 20 years ago! So you can see it really made an impression. When I got married, I had 2 recipe showers. At one, there was a chef who did a cooking demonstration (and that was our lunch). Something like that might work for your group; if not cooking, then scrapbook, flower arranging, some craft relating to an upcoming holiday, or something else your daughter likes. I would say that shower ideas should take into account the personality of the bride. A friend gave me an at-home shower with about 15 guests, a light buffet lunch and wine. It was lovely and perfect. I'm not one for the big restaurant-shower thing, and would have been horrified for my friend to spend that kind of money anyway. Heck, she had to talk me into having a shower at all (I was an "older" bride). For me, at-home, simple, and personal was the best. You and the attendants probably know the bride best, so think about what suits her. Oh, and IMHO, no games!

The painted oyster shells are beautiful. I am extremely picky about what comes into my house, but I would love one. That said the pen, notepad and a note from bride is a nice idea too. If too time consuming for the bride, a note that is a copy of a handwritten note by the bride would be an option. With the wide age range of guests, a medium size pen would be best. I am early 60s and I find too thin are hard for me to hold and too thick in diameter are uncomfortable.

I think you could get some mums cheaply from Walmart, then go to the dollar store (if you have one) and buy some fall pots. I've been seeing them here, they're really cute. I think they should also have any ribbon or pics (those cute little doo dads they put in plants) to spruce up the mums.

You could buy pots of mums like the previous poster said. Then take terra cotta pots (very mexican looking) and put the mums in the terra cotta. Then tie a bow with a piece of raffia. The pots you should be able to get for a dollar or so. The mums are $2 or $3 here right now. The ribbon would be cheap too. You could accent with some real leaves or even buy a few bunches of the fake ones at a craft store. JoAnn's had theirs all on sale this weekend.

Ohhhhhhh - I have it (well, IMHO) ... for the guests, give them each a Cascarone (a confetti filled egg that is suppose to bring good luck to the person who's head it is broken over). They are fun to make and a blast to *use*!!! You could fill them with wedding confetti and maybe include some sort of wedding type trinket in each. Iwould really like to not go too mexican, and I only have 5 days....including today....to throw this together. Her daughters waited to late to decide what to do.Yikes!!!!lots to do!

Hollow out gourds, pumpkins, squash and put potted mums in them.

Those cascarones sound gorgeous but if you don't want to do those, maybe mini pumpkins for favors which people can use to decorate their homes. Or some autumn potpourri, pomander balls, or a bag of spices for making mulled cider.
