Mother of the groom to be needs help!!!!

Ok I have been reading all the posts related to who is invited to the rehearsal dinner and should invitations be sent. My question is this, I know Bridal party is Maid of Honor, bride and bridesmaids, groom, best man, groomsmen and ushers,. I'm sure the flower girl and ring bearer are included in the bridal party. I think I am right in all of this to assume everyone that is or should be at the rehearsal is invited to the rehearsal dinner with the parents and everyone's SO or parents of the little ones. My question is....what about the servers for the cake and food after the wedding? They don't need to be at the rehearsal but are they included in the dinner? Musicians, candle lighters and readers are invited too right? I need some input pretty quick. Thanks

I would say that only people who are participating in the actual ceremony would need to be included. Plus, as you note, SOs & parents of little ones. But cake & food servers - I'd leave them out.

It's also sometimes expected that out of town guests will be invited if they've already arrived in town by the time the rehearsal dinner is held.

I would invite musicians, readers, and candlelighters only if they are friends of the bride or groom and you would enjoy having them there. If they are associated with the church and are providing their services, then I wouldn't include them.

I need advice on mother of the groom dresses

I believe I have the arms for a sleeveless dress, so that's not an issue. I have been looking at Lord & Taylor, Macy's and Nordstrom. The two dresses I posted are from Nordstrom. Both are Kay Unger, so they're essentially the same dress, one sleeveless and one with the 3/4 sleeve. I did go into one special occasion dress shop in the area, but their selection of knee length dresses was very limited and what they did have was a little dressier than what I want. If I'm going to spend a little more on a dress, I am looking for something I will wear again. I plan to dress up this navy blue by adding some sparkle with jewelry and shoes. The woman at Nordstrom who was helping me suggested shoes in a pewter color. I never thought I'd agonize this much over my dress selection. No one is even going to be looking at me that day! Ha!

Well, I do think the bride and groom are going up to camp for a few days before the wedding. But when the relatives arrive, they will be staying in the hotel with everyone. Both of our sons will share a room; our younger son is best man. The bride will share a room with her sister, who will be matron of honor. They had a favorite, very popular double campsite in Big Sur that they really wanted, but they needed 2 adjoining ones to accommodate the expected 50 guests, and they could only get one. (The whole family was online registering for those 2 sites the minute they opened them for reservations.) However, they had already put money down to hold their alternate site which is also beautiful. We will use it; it has gorgeous big redwoods and views of the river, I think. I wanted to discourage them from camping that week, picturing a bride full of mosquito bites and a dress crushed into their car and tent with all the equipment they would need, but they have it all figured out and this is what they want. We want them to be happy. (My brother is driving up, so we have enlisted their help in transporting the wedding dress to avoid their cramming it into the car with their camping gear.) The rehearsal dinner is also at a camp site, and the local camp vendor is going to cater it. I assume hamburgers or BBQ chicken. We will all arrive just in time to get to the rehearsal dinner as it is quite a trek to get there, even by plane. No one lives locally, which would have been a big help. The bride and her mother and our son are planning the locales, decorations, menu and everything. We are paying the bill. Hopefully, this will be the wedding of our bride's dreams. The reception is at their favorite restaurant in Big Sur.

I would like a wedding coordinators opinion - is the following in bad taste? or am I too sensitive..my son was married a couple of months ago, i was seated in the back table at the reception, by the kitchen, and prevented from being in the photos. When I asked the wedding planner about pictures with the grooms family and the mother of the groom she said, not on the schedule! I was stunned. The night before he told me I was the best mother in the world, of course I had just deposited $10,000.00 in his account. A month before the wedding the bride sent me the dress she wanted me to wear, she got it for $50.00 off Amazon, she wore a $10,000.00 Vera Wang that my son bought for her. Now there are hundreds of pics online with her family - not one of me.. They re indignant that I dare feel bad because I was seated in the back and didn't get my picture taken, They tell me that it was THEIR day and I should just keep my mouth shut..I didn't see it coming, although the bride said before the wedding that she thought me, a single mother, and my sons were too close..well, she's just done a great job of breaking that up. I'd say, include all of the people who are involved in the wedding (including cake servers) if they are involved because they are close to the bride and groom. If they are involved because you got a good recommendation or they "come with the church" then leave them out.

I would think in terms of these people's relationship to the couple and families, not their role at the wedding. Think about who you want at that dinner (including how big you want/can afford for it to be), not about who will be doing what at the wedding. If one of two nieces is a bridesmaid and another is serving food, I'd invite them both. I'd be more inclined to include a sibling who isn't an attendant than a friend from work who is serving cake. In any case, I would include all immediate family (and SOs) and grandparents, too.

If someone's feelings are hurt, it won't matter that you followed some sort of iron-clad rule about who is to be invited to a rehearsal dinner -- even if there were one, which there isn't.

also, be sure the bride weighs in--she may feel it's not necessary to invite the cake server.

We have been invited to several informal rehearsal dinners because we were guests who came a long distance, and family. Mostly the rehearsal dinners are family, and those who were in the wedding party.
The rehearsal dinner doesn't have to be at an exclusive restaurant--if the number of people is large--it can be a picnic, a gathering at a home with catering, or even a pot luck. I've seen every variation.

Although this has been stated, it would be unusual for musicians to be invited to the rehearsal dinner. I've been a wedding dj for over 20 years & played at many ceremonies. I've never been invited to the rehearsal dinner. (Might be fun though)

I am guessing that by "musicians" she meant friends or relatives who will be playing instruments or singing at the ceremony, not a professional dj or band member who will be playing at the reception or even for the processional.

I agree. Often a church pianist or organist is a family friend as well as the church musician and in that case, they should be included.

at our rehersal dinner it was who DIDN'T come, lol...bride's parents are still feuding after 20+ years...anyway, went the casual pizza place near the chapel (inside a historical village)

for our older son, it was in the backyard, bbq, and we had nearly 50 people! (lot's of out if towners)
