Does anyone have ideas for favors to give as gifts at a wedding that are not expensive and different at the same time?

I did way too many favors for our wedding, but I saw so many cute things that I just got carried away! However, I did one favor that the women really liked. I found small lace cone shaped bags and filled them with raspberry potpouri, placing them at each place setting. (Just so happens our cake was a Raspberry Cheesecake and the punch was a raspberry sherbert) Of course I made way too many and still have them in all my drawers to scent them. It will be three years next week and they still smell very nicely! ALso, I found the little bags at a store that was going out of business so they were very inexpensive. One large bag of potpouri filled about 50 bags. Hope this helps.

We're (notice I'm including myself in this--because I'm doing half the work) giving custom candles with the bride and groom's name and wedding date on it in clear glass votive cups with white hearts on the front.

You can make the candles by using tissue paper, your printer and an embossing gun--nearly free, really. And everyone is always impressed because they're customized. If you want detailed instructions, email me.

I know exactly how you feel, however, I decided in the beginning I would accept the other grandparent for who she is. The other grandparent always walked in the door laden down with "things" for the children, naturally she became the favorite grandparent, got lots of hugs, kids climbed all over her etc. I have different values, children need to learn to like a person for who they are rather than for "things" brought to them. I do not get the same kind of welcome, I do get lots of hugs and thanks for things I help them learn to do, always hugs when they come and when they leave, same at their house when I come or leave (not giddish type, meaningful hugs, etc.). If grandchildren fail to come and give me a hug I quickly inform them with arms stretched out that grandma needs a hug and I get a genuine hug with meaning in it. I do not play favorites with our grandchildren, the other grandparent does. The other grandparent seldom visits with adults at parties, spends all her time in another room with some of the children, giggling, acting silly, chattering nonsense constantly, etc. By nature I am not the giddish type person, I am more reserved, sincere and visit with all ages. I am not one to jump up and down, oooh ahhh, I give them praises for their accomplishments, lots of hugs, etc. but not jibberish. The other grandparent has things to offer the children that are different than what I have to offer. She is a playmate rather than a grandparent figure in their lives. This grandparent is a shopper, gad about but not interested in things on the home front like cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, crafts, etc. Not a serious bone in her body!! I offer love, solid rock foundation, supportive, teach them to sew, crochet, knit, embroidery, and many other things. Our 8 year old grandson just finished sewing a quilt for charity all by himself, thrilled at his accomplishment, loves to sew and very confident. The granddaughters have made clothes, sewed on quilts for charity. Grandchildren are now 6, 8, 11, 13. I am the one they can depend on in time of need, stable, they know I am always there for them.

An update to this thread. I ended up doing these for the bridal shower as the wedding planning was getting crazy and I didn’t want to add to the confusion. I made a few batches and added the potassium sorbate and they ended up extremely shelf stable. The funniest part was the grandmother of the groom tried a gummy at the shower and loved them. Next thing I know she’s sitting in the family room with her own personal bowl of gummies lol. Her oldest daughter realizes that she’s loving these things but probably didn’t realize they were alcoholic. I hear her yell “Mother! You put those down, you’re going to get schnockered!” We all lost it. I sent her home with her own bag for later lol.

I am at the moment returning two button up shirts (sleeveless) that claimed to be "tailored" and had a "slim" fit. Both could double as maternity tops. I am so sick of struggling to find actually tailored blouses. I swear every single one is clipped on the model in website photos but in reality it's a big square blouse with zero tailoring. I've had some luck in the past with Banana Republic Riley button up blouses and JCrew as well. I like them to have a little stretch (easier to move my arms and shoulders) but I still want something nicely tailored. Off to UPS to return some blouses now...

Step 3Add reserved cooked mushrooms and pearl onions back to the pot and bring to a simmer. Partly cover the pot and simmer on low heat until carrots and onions are tender and sauce is thick, 30 to 40 minutes. Taste and add more salt and tamari if needed. Stir in the grated garlic clove. Step 4Just before serving, heat a small skillet over high heat and add ½ tablespoon butter or oil. Add half of the sliced chanterelles or oyster mushrooms and let cook without moving until they are crisp and brown on one side, 1 to 2 minutes. Flip and cook on the other side. Transfer to a plate and sprinkle with salt and smoked paprika. Repeat with remaining butter and mushrooms. Serve mushroom Bourguignon over polenta, noodles or mashed potatoes, topped with fried mushrooms and parsley.

For my wedding we are doing chocolate bars. They are very cheap and easy. I have a mold that says "Thank you for sharing our joy". There are 4 bars on one mold. You would need to buy the chocolate and melt it down. Very easy, cheap and yummy!!

They have a huge selection and it isn't very expensive. I ordered 2 sheets of the thank you bars (4 molds on each) and it only came to about $6.00. And they were very fast on the delivery. I am almost finished with them, they are easy to do. I would highly recommend doing the chocolate bars. I did some white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate to have some at each table.

Thank you Juliet2003!!! That is a great site, there are several molds that would be fitting for our kidÂs wedding!

My DS and future DIL are getting married in a rustic former tavern. It has a beautiful garden and reception room, but the tavern is still present. So for the favors, we have been collecting various glassware (wine glasses, beer mugs, etc.). The guest will be able to keep their glass as a favor, but we would like to add something to it. A chocolate lollipop will be perfect!
