I have a use for a device that would make you think twice before throwing a switch rather than preventing it. The strap link makes me think that there is probably a simple, inexpensive way to do it, but more sightly than a galvanized metal loop. Maybe find some plastic of a nice color that can be made into a loop and slip it under the screws. This is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I've been searching for a vintage living room chair for months and just found this one right before Christmas (will be re-upholstered as soon as I can find a rug for the room and can reliably pick a fabric): The chair you posted is a nice chair, but it seems formal to me (as opposed to grandmother-ly). I found that most chairs of this vintage have a bit of wood on the arms, and it makes them seem uncomfortable or formal. Fully-upholstered is hard to find, and when you do find it, it's often quite wide for an old chair (this one is 37" I think). A while back, I did find a nice one on craigslist with a tight upholstered back and tight upright thin upholstered arms, but it was the wrong color and I passed on it because I was hoping to find something that I didn't have to reupholster. I'm still regretting that missed gem! So if you see one that has nice lines, I'd say snag it, regardless of the upholstery. Hope that helps in your search. I love the lines of the Carlisle, and I would have bought it but its proportions are unusually large and did not work for the room I was furnishing. Compare the dimensions to other chairs and you may find the same. As for off white washable slipcovers, I love them and have been a devotee for years. When we had our first nursery, we had a slipcovered RH sofa in our son's nursery, and later on an armchair and ottoman in a girls room. Now we have a huge L in our great room that is washable off white duck, and a sleeper sofa in our little stonehouse/playhouse. In our experience, the slipcovers wash very well. You can even shout out stains. It is kind of hard work getting them off and putting them back on, but now that I am used to it I almost think upholstered stuff I can't wash is kind of yucky, if YKWIM. It is better to take the slips out when damp, they go on easier that way. I never had the PB ones, mine were either RH or MGBW. But my bet is they are all made in one big factory somewhere anyway! I like the look of chair covers, but like Colleen, feel money could be better spent elsewhere. Here's one from the You-can-never-win category: my FDIL's shower is being held in a room in a country club. You would think (at least I did), that a country club would be decorated nicely. Nope.
