Is it doable?

We found the place: Outside, garden-esque, close to home, almost perfect. However, if we book it, the only date that doesn't conflict with weather and schedules is August 31st. Nothing has been set in motion, yet, not even my dress. Do you think 2 1/2 months is feasible to do everything?

It depends on a few things:

1) for how many people? A big wedding might be hard; it's possible, but it may be more stressful than it's worth. If you are envisioning a small wedding, I think it's fine, but let your guests know the date ASAP even if it means sending out emails or something before you can get the invitation together.

2) does someone have a lot of time to devote to this?

3) is your officiant free that day?

4) how picky are you about having certain caterer, band, florist? Flexibility will help you with a short time frame

5) can you hire a coordinator? That will make it easy. In my opinion, they are worth their fee in peace of mind alone.

In a word, yes! A young friend of mine got married just 4 weeks ago. Her wedding was every bit as elaborate as my daughter's was. We took 7 months to plan my daughter's wedding (300+ guests). My friend did it in 10 days (not quite as many guests -- but still, a lot).

But:

They had a LOT of help -- everyone pitched in...parents, friends, aunts, uncles, cousins

They didn't spend a lot of time *deciding* on things. No wavering between this decoration or that, this menu or that one.

In some ways, I think her wedding was *less* stressful because of those factors!

Enduring- thanks for responding. I had seen your shower- it turned out just beautiful. I wasn't sure if in your research you'd explored a sliding glass door or not. To answer your questions. One end of the shower is on an exterior brick wall. The other is flanked by a custom linen closet surrounded by tile with the edges grouted. It's not coming out. If I had no other choice but to do doors, I'm pretty sure I'd have to remove tile on one or both ends and add the blocking- not something I'd like to do if I can avoid it. Likely I'd just have one door and a fixed panel on the other- I'm pretty sure the toilet clearance wouldn't let me do two doors like you have. Though I see your point about having a fixed panel- I can't drill into the shower pan so that wouldn't work either. Hopefully some of the glass guys can give me their opinion about using epoxy to secure clips on the bottom. Thanks again for your help- much appreciated. Lisa

Cutting IKEA Kitchen base cabinets to custom size. Doable?

I have modified Ikea cabinets about every way you can just to see if it can be done. And the answer is - "yes it can be done." But that isn't the right question, the right question is - "should it be done?" This looks like 50 dollars of effort for a 2 dollar return in my opinion. When you start modding cabinets you exponentially increase the risk that something is going to go wrong, or that you are not going to be happy with the results, especially in a remodel situation where the walls may not be true, and this is where a few good spacers make things work well. I think that the 1" spacer on the left is going to cause you problems, after handles you have almost no clearance and I bet you are going to end up with dinged doors. You have good sized drawer bases now (two 24" and a 36") I just don't see that much gain from another 3".

I will right now try to talk you out of a 48” They are very expensive, the ventilation for them will cost as much as the stove and it will be NOISYin a relatively small space they look ridiculous and unless you cook for 20 people every night just not worth it.I do a lot of Ikea kitchens and the cabinets are nice to work with but have their limitations. Double wall ovens if well made are very heavy and IMO need a cabinet that is attached to the wall in as many spots as possible. Why not just put the wall ovens to the left of the sink in that run of cabinets. It is hard for me to see how a corner cabinet would work where you are thinking. Is this a new build or a reno . Maybe draw a detailed floor plan with a decription of where the windows are and if the range is on an outside wall. It is hard to read the plan so larger and as much detail about waht is there as possible.

welcome wanda.. perhaps you should have started your own new post ... then at least.. replies could be set to come to your email... anyway .... im not rereading all the above.. but the first thing that pops into my mind.. is that a mature tree has put it roots at the surface.. because that is favorable to the tree .... adding a little soil above those roots.. is only going to encourage those roots to resurface again ... though i tree time.. it will be a very long time before you see big roots there ... but you might start seeing fine feeders roots.. faster than you might imagine.. a year or two in tree time .... and every time you dig a hole below the new soil ... and into those roots.. the tree will respond by putting new feeder roots into the new and fresh soil ... not to mention those roots cut due to the garage construction ... should you try it.. of course ...perhaps it will work ...and even if in a few years.. the plants seem to be struggling.. you can always move them somewhere else ... hosta are water hogs.. and if you ever start noticing.. them wilting... and you just cant seem to water enough ... then you have tree root problems... but there are many other things that will grow there.. [and dont stain that brick works with ugly water ... the plants arent worth it...] ken btw: i would make the bed as wide as the brick work.... i think it would add some symmetry ... it would look pleasing to the eye ... rather than a 2 or 3 foot ribbon of soil ...

Thank you both for your input. It's very reassuring.

At first it was going to be a small wedding but now it's a 100-person guest list. Which is small in comparison to most weddings I've been to, but a lot bigger than I ever thought it would be.

It's not going to be just one person devoted. Right now, my fiancÃ©, my mother, and I are trying to do it all together. I know on the actual day it'll be my mother in charge. She likes to take charge, so that could be a good thing.

We just got the ball rolling on this yesterday and so far, we have our officiant (soon to be brother-in-law was ordained, last night, on the computer) and photographer (a friend that is a bonafide professional photographer - lucked out on that one. Side note: he also painted our house in trade hehe). Everything else is still up in the air. Have to make plenty of calls today.

If we can pull this off for under $4,000, I will be amazed. But we're off to a good start.
