first a complaint .... i open it.. it fills the screen completely ... even the bar that i dont know what it is called... so every note i type here.. will involve closing the program.. and reopenning it ... i guess i would like if it ran like a screen saver.. so i could do other things.. and be surprised what pops up when i minimize windows ... now.. hopefully i can remember ... first pic of jean's memorial garden.. looks like green arrow on left ... and there is a big green picea???? on the right.. that looks like it has white growth or cones.. any chance at an ID .... i will reopen the slide show and check properties.. to see if i can get a pic name ... brb.. lol .. couldnt do it ... other thoughts. ... i like on the third version down.. if i hit pause.. i then control the page turning for the duration ... i can skip those that are zone improper.. and linger on those i like... love the purple and pink cone pix... what kind of camera are you using.. with what attachments... i always presumed saybrook gold came out of saybrook OH.. girards or al fournash .... surprised to see your mass planting ... i know you guys have a lot of PPending plants... is it correct that all are NOT patented .. in other words.. you propagate salable plants .. rather than just your own?? i have a plant .. one of my first .. so i wasnt a nomenclature freak back then .. that i thought was Picea abies WB .... i presumed it was just a witches broom off P.a. ... but i see you have P.a. My favorites are the listings from the proud gardeners. I've seen more than a few listings where there's maybe 6 pictures of the house then 12+ pictures of the flower gardens and landscaping. A listing I saw last year was a small farmhouse with a horse barn. 8 pictures of the house, 16 pictures of the barn, corrals, tack room, horse shower area, etc... Few years back my MIL was selling her house and we happened to stop by the day before the realtor was scheduled to stop in for pictures. She had all her small appliances and cookware on the kitchen counters, to show how much space there was. Likewise, she had taken clothing out of storage and stuffed the closets full in order to show how much could fit in there. Her dining table (normally for 4) had 8 chairs and place settings (plus serving platters and dishes) to show how many people she could entertain. Not to mention enough potpourri, scented candles, and glade plug-ins to make the place smell stronger than an Abercrombie & Fitch store. A decent argument managed to "talk her off the ledge" and allow us to undo her work.

I have a hand held wand that saves to an SD card. It is very tricky to use and unless you have a level surface, a steady hand and a firm hold on the photo, you get distortions. Some models to allow a flashdrive to be plugged into them. Bit of a learning curve. I scan old photos on my flatbed scanner but I do about 6 at a time at a high resolution and save the scans that way for preservation. I edit the sheets in Photoshop and cut out the ones that I want for editing and printing. A flatbed scanner can be set to save to any drive you choose.

The easiest and fastest way to handle tons of photos is to purchase a large portable hard drive. One terabyte should do the job - depending on how many photos there are and the resolution they were shot at. I have two smaller portable drives full of images but retrieving a particular image is pretty timely. If some were shot in RAW then they will be huge files. I personally stopped shooting in RAW because each image would start out at 40 - 60 MGs or so. I am a professional photographer and unless the image is going to be printed in a book or made into a wall sized photo, a good quality JPG is satisfactory for my uses. I have never had a problem with the JPG files being acceptable with any of the many photos that have been published in books or used for lectures or websites. Sorting photos is a very tedious job. Many of my old photos are on DVD's. I use a Sharpie to put the names of the files with a date and short description and have them in DVD binders. Really fast to flip through the binder to find what I am looking for. I have more than 10,000 digital images over 12 years or so. Some day I will delete the duplicates, out of focus and just bad shots! lol But not tomorrow. lol
