Poem for out of town guests gift baskets

Help, need a great poem for some gift baskets for the out of towners that come to the wedding. Wedding is Friday, June 4th! Help! We work better under stress!

I know there is someone out there with the words I need!

What will you be putting in the baskets? That might help if you'd like the poem to be longer... Hope this helps! :-)

We never used a poem, just a letter from us welcoming them and giving them all the info for the weekend and phone numbers they might need. On the back, we drew a map with all the locations they would need.

Hi Allison, I love gift baskets. On my webpage there are some I've made up for friends and family - I try to add a poem to make them more personal. Feel free to use any of the ideas you find there. For my son's birthday I'm making up a "Bottomless Pit basket" and filling it with his favorite junk foods, soft drinks and a toothbrush for after the pigout, and maybe a voucher for the video store. I also want to sew up on of his favorite shirts that he's outgrown (an idea I saw somewhere & can't remember where) & make it into a cushion for his bed - you turn shirt inside out and sew up bottom and arm holes, turn the right way in and stuff with toy filler using the neck opening. I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!

When we arrived at a particular wedding, we had a gift basket in our room and a little bottle of wine with a sweet, hand-written note saying simply: "We want you to know how much it means to us that you chose to be with us at this special time. Thank you for attending!" (and signed with the Bride and Groom's names) I think it was the fact that it wasn't a 'confetti' card...even though it was a short note, it was special because it was hand-written. Near the basket was a fact page of the city, map to and from ceremony and reception, time-line, and what turned out to be a blessing, was a list of everyone else we knew who were staying in the same hotel, so that we could call each other and meet for cocktails!

Why do you need a poem? I would just have a small piece of paper that says "Welcome to (insert location)". Personally, I think the poem is too "cutesy" and, as someone else mentioned in another post, the words "our special day" make me roll my eyes! I really like the idea of a list of the other guests in the hotel as someone noted above. Sometimes I attend out of town wedding not just to see the bride and groom, but because of all the other friends and family who will be there as well!

Thanks to one and all. This was for my DS's girlfriend. She was amazed at how quickly the responses came in. Love my THS friends!

another vote for prose.

Poor prose! Such a lovely way to say so many truly wonderful things, and yet so many people reject it, in favor of poems, which are restricted to meter and rhyme! Not that meter and rhyme are bad, but theyr'e very restricting.

And Duckyhead, did you REALLY say "special day"? Eww, yuck! I tell you, I'm tired of adjectives: special, wonderful, etc.

How many people does she have? Maybe just write a note to each of them: "Frank & Joan--I'm so glad you could come be with us. I know it was a long trip, and I'm flattered you would travel that far for us." Or, "Susan: here's that great cheese I was telling you about--sorry I can't stop by the hotel, but we've got to grab a few minutes, just you and me. Come to the church early?"

or whatever is appropriate, even if it's just, "we're glad you could come, and we hope you're comfortable in the hotel."
