Father's toast?

We need help. My DH has no idea of what to say for the father of the bride's toast at the wedding dinner. What have been some good thoughts included in toasts you have heard at weddings? Or good wording?

RE: Father's toast?

One of the most memorable toasts for me was at a friend's wedding. The groom's older brother said something like, "Look around this room and remember all the faces you see. Each and every one of us loves and supports you and wants only the very best life can offer for you both. When times get tough, reach into your memory and remember this day and these people. It will help you through."

It may not be what you're looking for, but I still remember his words, 16 years later.

RE: Father's toast?

My father made a great moment out of the rehearsal dinner - I can't remember all of what he said, but the main part was that he read a poem that I had written him for father's day - over 20 years ago. It was kind of generic, about how a father needs to be caring but firm, etc. He read the poem, said how proud he was to be my father, and to be gaining a daughter-in-law. Then, he gave a copy of the poem to my fiancee!

So my advice is to go back in time, write a poem for your father, then hope he holds on to it across a couple decades and decides to read it as a toast. It works great.
